Hundreds gather for anointing of the sick

Some 900 worshippers, including persons suffering from a serious acute or
chronic illness and their caregivers, attended a special Mass in honor of
World Day of the Sick Feb. 14 in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament
in Sacramento. Bishop Jaime Soto presided, joined by many priests of the
diocese. During the Mass, after worshippers were sprinkled with holy water
from the grotto of Lourdes, France, worshippers prayed for caregivers and
the sick were anointed with oil. The Mass was sponsored by the Order of
Malta in the diocese.
